Kumho

Value-focused performance with motorsport credentials

Est. 1960South Korea

History & Overview

Kumho Tire was founded in 1960 in Gwangju, South Korea as part of the Kumho Asiana Group, one of South Korea's largest conglomerates. The company grew alongside South Korea's rapid industrialization, becoming a major supplier to the domestic automotive industry and eventually expanding into global markets.

Kumho established motorsport credentials through involvement in various racing series, including Formula 3 Masters and touring car championships. This motorsport experience proved valuable for developing tires that could handle diverse conditions and demanding performance requirements. The Ecsta line became their flagship performance offering, providing enthusiasts with capable tires at accessible price points.

In 2018, Doublestar Tire Group of China acquired a controlling stake in Kumho, providing capital for modernization and expansion while maintaining the brand's Korean identity and engineering team. Today, Kumho focuses on providing quality tires across all segments at competitive pricing, appealing to value-conscious consumers who want proven performance without premium pricing.
