Speedline Corse

82+ FIA World Championship titles in rally and F1

Est. 1976Italy

History & Overview

Speedline traces its origins to ESAP Srl, created by former racing driver Gianfranco Padoan in the late 1960s in northern Italy. Speedline S.p.A. was formally established in 1976 when entrepreneur Giancarlo Zacchello acquired ESAP and set up new production facilities. The brand entered the wheel business with motorsport involvement from essentially the very start, making wheels for Ferrari's Formula 1 program in the mid-1970s. Niki Lauda's championship-winning Ferrari 312T ran on Speedline wheels, which is the kind of early credibility that can't be manufactured later.

Through the 1980s, Speedline became deeply embedded in the World Rally Championship, supplying wheels for the most significant rally cars of that decade. Lancia, Audi, Ford, Subaru, and SEAT were among the WRC teams that ran Speedline at various points. The Audi Quattro S1's Group B campaign, the Lancia Delta Integrale's championship runs, and the Subaru Impreza's WRC years all happened on Speedline wheels. That breadth of WRC involvement over multiple generations of cars is genuine and well-documented, and it's why Speedline's motorsport heritage holds up to scrutiny.

Speedline pioneered and patented Flowforming technology, a rotary ironing process that reduces rim wall thickness by up to 45% while maintaining structural strength. This process, now widely adopted across the industry under various names, originated with Speedline. The Corse motorsport division continues to supply wheels across WRC, WTCC, and other FIA categories, and the brand has accumulated over 82 FIA World Championship titles across rally and circuit competition.

The Turini is Speedline's best-known street and rally crossover design, a wheel that carries genuine tarmac rally DNA into road use. Subaru and Lancia enthusiasts treat certain Speedline models as historically authentic choices for period-correct builds, which reflects real motorsport history rather than branding. The company was acquired by Callista Group in 2023, with manufacturing continuing in Italy. Speedline remains one of the few wheel brands where the motorsport credentials apply to the actual products you can buy.
